Melissa Rossow

melissa-dunn-realtorOriginally from New Hampshire, Melissa grew up working in her family’s small hotel on the coast, where she inherited an entrepreneurial spirit from an early age. She has lived in Virginia for over 17 years. After earning her master’s in journalism and working for a small town paper, Melissa joined the College of William and Mary to serve as Director of Alumni Communications for 11 years.
In 2011, Melissa relocated to Charlottesville with her husband and in 2014 she became a realtor. She excels at listening to people, asking good questions and understanding people’s needs, as well as negotiating contracts. She also makes it a point to know what’s happening around town in real estate and on the culture and food scene, which is one of Charlottesville’s many treasures.
Communication skills come in handy in the real estate business where there are so many media outlets to market your home. Melissa understands the importance of online media and how professional photography can make a difference. She lives in Belmont with her husband, a retired Army officer. She loves to walk the Downtown Mall any time of the year and shop in the Farmer’s Market when it’s open. The proximity to everything from restaurants and entertainment venues to church and fitness amenities attracted them to live close to the hub of Charlottesville. Melissa also enjoys the easy escape to the country to watch polo, ski or hike in the mountains, kayak the James, or simply sip some of the outstanding local Virginia wine with friends. Melissa looks forward to helping you buy or sell your home.

A Few of My Favorite Things

  • My Favorite Way to Spend a Day Off
My husband and I are very active, so in the spring and fall we like to hike in the mountains and bike Rails to Trails, in the summer we visit friends in Virginia Beach or boat on Smith Mountain Lake and in the winter we ski, often just down the road at Wintergreen. We enjoy cultural activities, concerts and museums, both here in Charlottesville and in Richmond or D.C. We also love to spend time together, so you will see a lot of ‘We’ in this list.
  • My Favorite Places in Charlottesville
My favorite thing to do is stroll the Downtown Mall on a Friday evening with my husband, maybe going to the wine tasting at Market Street Wine Shop and checking out the art on First Fridays or listening to music at Fridays after Five, followed by a trip to one of our favorite eateries. It’s also a great place to people watch and run into people you know.
  • My Favorite Hobby
I love to cook and there is nothing better than preparing a meal for family and friends. I was inspired from watching the old cooking shows on TV with my mother, long before the days of the Food Network. My husband and I love films and foreign television, so Netflix can be very addicting. We explore new places and take trips whenever possible. Between the two of us, we have traveled to every continent except Australia.
  • My Favorite Sporting Activity
My husband and I prefer participating in sports to watching them, but we do try to catch at least one or two baseball games a season, and the local horse races, Montpelier and Foxfields. We are both New Englanders, so of course that makes us part of Red Sox Nation. Go Sox! I have always enjoyed tennis and would love to go to the U.S. Open someday.

  • “Melissa was a perfect fit for me. I began my home search looking for a condo or single family home and looked at over 12 homes before I made the decision to build. She was patient in the midst of all of my indecision and she was an excellent advocate for me during the building process. I appreciated her diligence and attention to detail. Because she communicated with me clearly and often, Melissa made me feel that not only was my home purchase a priority, but I was a priority. When I need a real estate agent in the future, I will seek out Melissa Rossow because she puts all of her energy into each and every step of helping her clients find the perfect home.” — Robin W.
  • “We loved working with Melissa. We were first time homebuyers with very little knowledge of the home buying process. Melissa was patient and thorough with us throughout the entire journey. She sat down with us in the beginning to walk us through the process of buying a home. It was clear she wanted us to feel educated and confident in our knowledge so we could be confident in our choice of a house. She was available when we needed her and answered our questions thoroughly. If she didn’t know an answer right away she was quick to research and reply. She has an inquisitive and detail oriented nature which is a phenomenal quality as a realtor. She often asked us questions we hadn’t thought to ask which helped us develop a clear picture of what we did and did not want. When we found our home she was present during each step of the way and helped make the process as simple as possible. However, the best quality about Melissa is that we knew we could trust her. We knew she had our best interest in mind and that she genuinely cared that we would find something we loved. We are so grateful for the extra care and effort she put in so that we didn’t just get a house but ultimately a place to call home.” – Kristen & Phil P.

Stasia was very professional and friendly during our home buying experience. She helped us find houses to look at that met our requirements and was able to fill us in on information that we were not familiar with as first time home buyers.

Darian was there every step of the way to help us along! Even after we found the right home, Darian helped us through the actual purchase, mortgage application, home inspection, and closing. He always had extremely useful advice, encouragement, and endless knowledge about buying and owning a home.

Melissa is an outstanding real estate agent and a joy to work with. She took the time to understand our needs in a new home, worked tirelessly running down leads, and has stayed upbeat and positive during a difficult search. It was truly a pleasure to work with Amy. Not only is she knowledgeable and responsive, but she is patient and takes the time to explain the process of selling a home and makes you feel comfortable with what can be a very complicated process. Amy truly made the process easy for us and sold our property in a week.
